At the base of Pikes Peak, nestled in the woods is an amazing amusement park based on my favorite holiday. Christmas! It is the North Pole, aka Santa’s Workshop! It originally opened in 1956. It is open from May until Christmas Eve.
My parents first took me there in 1962. It was a Saturday afternoon and my parents were taking a break from work and we just happened to go to Santa’s Workshop. It was in the fall. Christmas has always been my favorite holiday, so I was very happy to get to see Santa Claus in October. I don’t remember a lot of rides then, but there were a lot of shops, pony rides and a ferris wheel. Of course the most fun was visiting with Santa.
When I was married and we had our own kids, we too took them to Santa’s Workshop. They loved the rides and the whole Santa’s workshop. There’s a candy cane slide, a Christmas tree ride ,there’s a train that you can ride and see most of the park. The funnest way to see the park is riding the Tram to get an aerial view of the park. There’s a magician there and a magic show several times throughout the day There are animated puppets that do shows throughout the day.
Through the years, as everyone grew up, it then was time to take the grand-kids to Santa’s Workshop. There are rides for every age group, not just the younger ones.

There’s a rocket ship ride, that the older kids love, the scrambler and some parasailing rides that go pretty high and you can adjust the sail part. You have to climb up a hill to get to the ferris wheel. All in all there are 40 attractions, 23 of them are rides for adults and children alike. A new attraction is the zipline. We did not try that this time as my great-grand-kids are only 2 and 6.
There is a pole (the North Pole), in the center of the workshop that stays frozen year round. There is Santa’s chapel. There are plenty of shops for shopping, and of course Santa’s House where you can visit with Santa. There is also a Santa’s Post Office where you can send your mail from the North Pole.
So this day was the first time my 2 little great-grand-kids had ever been to Santa’s workshop. They loved the rides, and loved visiting with Santa. Santa was right there at the entrance and greeted us. He had his working clothes on. There’s a lot of work to do to get ready for Christmas, even though it’s only July.

Riding the Tram is the funnest way to get an aerial view of the park.

Braxton and I enjoyed the bobsled ride which goes forwards first then backwards.

The food is very reasonable at Santa’s Workshop. They have the usual hamburgers, hot dogs, corn dogs, french fries. For a combination plate, hamburger, fries and drink it was $7.50. They also have my favorite for dessert, funnel cakes which were only $3.00.
In Santa’s chapel there is a poster that explains that every year the coins are collected from the wishing well, and toys are bought and donated to Foster Children and other under priviledged children. They are invited to the North Pole before Christmas and are given a party and Santa disperses the presents to the children.
Santa’s Workshop has been a favorite for our family for 4 generations. This is a great place for families with kids of all ages. Highly recommended if you are in the Colorado Springs area.

So much fun. It would be so fun to bring my kids.
