Why I Love Cruising Part II

Posted on June 18, 2019June 18, 2019

We may earn money or products from the companies mentioned in this post.

Before I continue on about our cruise, I want to say I hope everyone had a Happy Father’s Day on Sunday, June 16. I hope everyone spent time together as a family and honored their fathers.

So now we’re saying goodbye to Turks and Caicos and tomorrow we’ll wake up in La Romana, Dominican Republic.

We were lucky to find some lounge chairs and shade!

This is a beautiful resort. We did a “Resort for a Day” here. You have access to all of the amenities. You can use the pool, stay on the beach, use non-motorized water activities, go snorkeling, wind surfing. The “Resort for a Day” for us was a great value. Highly recommend the Resort for a Day Option if available in your port. You had food and drinks included. The only thing we had to pay extra for was transportation.

We were a little scared getting a taxi, our Spanish is not that good. But as luck would have it there were 2 other couples going to the same place as we were and they spoke Spanish fluently so we got where we were going without any problems, and the driver picked us up right on time and took us back to the ship.

They had giant blow-up slides anchored off the shore so you could swim out and go down if you wanted to.
The pool was awesome and large enough for people to swim!

Another reason I love cruising is they welcome you back with dancers and music!

Don’t be late back to ship or they’ll start playing the theme song from the “Chariots of Fire”!

On our fourth day we woke up and we were still headed to Curacao, we arrived about 1:45pm. This is okay with us we like to sleep in! So we could take our time to get ready and go to breakfast, and then go on our excursion in Curacao! We decided to do a Mini-sub that we could see the fish and coral from the comfort of a boat. This is our answer to snorkeling. We had some great tour guides, and the guide on the boat was also the diver. It is a mini-sub, close quarters, but they told us if we got too hot and needed air we could just put our seat up and make our way back upstairs to the deck.

These ladies greeted us when we got off the ship in Curacao!
Once our diver started feeding the fish we had more fish come up to the windows.
Now you can see the fish after he fed them.

After our excursion we did our own walking tour of Curacao. We loved Curacao. The people are friendly, we found a Starbucks! The city and island are beautiful. We explored many shops there. Yes they have the many colored buildings, and the old fort you walk through the gate and it’s a little shopping mall with shops and restaurants. For us Curacao was one of our favorite ports. The languages spoken there are English, Spanish, Dutch and Papiamento.

Curacao is well known for its beaches tucked into coves and its expansive coral reefs. The capital, Willemstad, which is where we were, has pastel colored colonial architecture, floating Queen Emma Bridge and the sand-floored, 17-th century Mikve Israel-Emmanuel Synagogue. It’s also a gateway to western beaches like Blue Bay, a popular diving site. We were kind of done with beaches and wanted to tour the downtown area.

You can see a lot of the pastel colored buildings in the background.

Our last stop before heading home was Aruba! We loved Aruba as well. We decided to do our own walking tour of Aruba! We found the casino, the shopping mall which is where we went and then just walked around taking in the sites. Aruba was hot for us, even though it was only 89 degrees. It was like walking down the Vegas strip in July when it was 112 degrees. We loved it though, it too was a favorite port. Actually they were all our favorite ports as they each had something different to offer.

We loved Aruba!

So again, why do I love cruising? There is so much to do. I don’t get to do this much or see this much by just going and checking into one hotel. Cruising everything is included, except your excursions. Your entertainment on ship is all included, food, shows, and everyone is so nice! As far as I’m concerned, you can’t beat cruising, it is one of my favorite ways to go on vacation.
