Christmas at the “White” House.

No, it’s not the White House you’re thinking of, but my White House! When we had an answering machine my son put the message on there “You have reached the White House, we can’t take your call right now, leave a message and we’ll get back to you.” That message used to get a lot of comments! LOL!

Christmas can get pretty chaotic at our house after we’ve eaten, then the presents are opened in a flurry and then everyone is gone! Hey! I’ve worked long and hard to have a nice Christmas and spent a lot of money and now everyone’s gone?

Well 4 years ago, I started a family Christmas Scavenger Hunt and then we had a potluck. That way we got to spend time with each other, have a competition and then enjoy each other’s company! With everyone grown it’s hard to get everyone together for very long, and that year my son was able to come a weekend before Christmas, so he was able to see everyone that way. The next 2 years it got way too busy and we didn’t have the Scavenger Hunt.  But not this year, I’m determined to make this a new tradition.

This year we decided to have an Ugly Christmas Sweater/Scavenger Hunt/Cookie Exchange/Potluck! We had a great time, and my team did not winwin again! The quiet, shy team of the Reindeers Won!

I am so proud of everyone! They all dressed up in their best “Ugly Christmas Sweater”, even the baby. We had trophies to hand out later. We had 3 teams for the Scavenger Hunt, the Reindeers, the St. Nicks and the Elves.

You have to allow at least 2 hours for the Scavenger Hunt, Each team was given a list list of 30 tasks to complete, and the proof was in the picture! No one is expected to complete all 30 tasks in the 2 hours allowed. But the winners, the Reindeers, did complete 21 tasks, and the Elves who came in 2nd completed 19 and the St. Nicks (Us) came in third completing only 18 tasks.

The tasks were fun and then we completed the evening back at the “White House with food, drinks and desserts. We handed out 12 trophies for the Ugly Sweaters that really are cute, not ugly at all! Everyone exchanged their cookies and we just spent time talking and having fun.

1 task was to find “A Christmas Story” and act like someone was telling him, “You’ll shoot your eye out!”

Only family members missing were our son and daughter-in-law, they live in Minnesota, they’re excused, and our other son-in-law who was working on an assignment for his Master’s Degree. 2 Grandson-in-laws were missing due to a hunting trip. (They didn’t catch anything, they would of had more fun with us!)

I hope you and your family had a wonderful Christmas and are looking forward to a Happy, Healthy and Prosperous New Year!
