Just when you think things are going okay, the Corona Virus is slowly winding down, life throws you a big curve ball.
We thought my husband may actually have corona virus, he went and did testing, his Dr. treated what everyone thought was a respiratory infection. Corona Virus test was negative. He still had respiratory problems, so the Dr. put him on a second antibiotic. My husband still was not getting better. Now this is a man who is a retired deputy sheriff, hates going to the Dr. and doesn’t like being a bother.
However, on Aug. 12 he told me he thought I should take him to the ER. (That’s usually my line when I can’t do anything else for him). As a retired nurse, I thought he had pneumonia due to the respiratory infection because all he had done for a month and a half was lay on the couch. So off to the ER we went. He was very weak, could hardly walk and I had to go in and get him a wheelchair when we arrived at the ER.
So when the Dr. came in with the X-ray and said I know what the problem is, and showed me the “white out” on the X-ray, I said, “I was right, pneumonia.” Then the ER Dr. said well yes, we’ve tested him for Corona Virus again because I don’t always trust the Fair testing. His Corona Virus test was negative again. There are three things the pneumonia can be from, infection, empyema, or cancer. We’ll do a CT Scan to see what exactly is going on.”
After the CT Scan, the Dr. came back and said , “Yep, it’s cancer!” My husband and I both went “What?” The shock set in. Both of us looked at each other our eyes as big as saucers, and we said at the same time “How can that be?”
So began our struggle and journey dealing with cancer. We had to see Pulmonologists, Cardio/Thoracic Surgeon and last but not least the Oncologist.
This is where the nightmare truly begins.
