After more than 30 years, another one of my nurse friends retired this year and we finally were able to celebrate at one of her favorite restaurants, Mr. Tandoori’s Urban Restaurant and Grill. Located on S. Victoria Ave., we were able to enjoy the fresh evening air on the back patio. Outdoor dining only, is allowed there.
This Indian food restaurant has warm ambiance, great service, and food. I decided on the Tandoori chicken, which is chicken marinated in ginger, garlic, yogurt, and spices and then cooked in a Tandoori oven, with onions and peppers. This is also served with Basmati Rice.
Tandoori cookery, an Indian method of cooking over a charcoal fire in a tandoor, a cylindrical clay oven…Meats cooked in the tandoor are marinated in yogurt and spices and threaded on long skewers that are placed vertically in the oven with one end resting in the ashes.
When my Tandoori chicken arrived in its cast iron skillet, it smelled and looked delicious, you could smell the aroma of the onions and peppers along with the chicken. You serve yourself from the iron skillet and the family style bowl of Basmati Rice. Chicken was crispy and the rice light and fluffy. It was delicious.

We had 11 people total which meant due to the Covid 19 regulations we had to be seated at 2 separate tables. The most we could have at 1 table was 6 people. We were only required to wear masks if we had to walk into the restaurant to use the restrooms or walking thru the patio to your table.
Everyone ordered a variety of different dishes, from Tandoori chicken to Veggie Masala.
For dessert I tried the Gulab Jamun, which is milk balls soaked in Rose Water syrup and they are served hot. They were different, sweet. I thought they would be like little donuts, but instead they were little milk dough balls in this Rose Water syrup. They were kind of mushy and the syrup was very sweet.

All in all, we had a lot of fun! Even one of our pediatricians was there having dinner with her friends and she came over and offered congratulations to our good nurse retiring! Good food and Good Friends!
