When I was growing up, we never went on family vacations. That doesn’t mean we didn’t go on vacation, but it means we never sat down as a family and decided where we wanted to go on vacation! My parents would come home one night and start packing a suitcase and away we would go. They liked to drive at night so my sister and I would sleep, and there was less traffic. My parents never bothered to call anyone either and ask if it was okay to come visit. We would just show up on their doorstep and say Surprise! We thought we would come visit!
Well, my traveling has become more sophisticated than that thank goodness! We were lucky, as a young family our extended family all lived in Pueblo or Colorado Springs. So when our kids were older and we had enough money to start taking our family on vacation, we actually could go somewhere that we had never been and did not have to surprise our family in the middle of the night and expect to stay with them!
Last summer our plan was to go to Branson, Missouri, we had never been there before. So the plan was a road trip. My husband was suppose to go, but he has a bad back, and some mobility issues so he decided at the last minute he didn’t want to go. Luckily my granddaughter, Brianna wanted to go and was thrilled that she and her 2 little ones could fill in at the last minute! You know what? We had a great time! My little great-grandson was happy as long as he had a movie on my portable DVD player, we had an outlet for it to plug into. His little sister who was not quite 2 did good. She was happy most of the time if her brother would share his movie with her once in awhile.
Our first real stop was in Dodge City, Kansas! I used to love all my westerns growing up. We had a great time touring the replica of Dodge City.
Branson was surprisingly very pretty! I was expecting flatlands, but it was mountainous and just very pretty. The kids had a great time, we went to a magic show, we went to a toy museum. Great fun!

The Wax Museum was a big hit as well as Pasghetti’s where we ate great Italian food!
If you have not been to Branson, Missouri, I highly recommend it! We stayed at the Wyndham Branson at The Meadows. Great place, all condominiums, 7 pools, playground area, picnic area. You can play shuffle board, ping pong. Great place for a Family Reunion too!
Looking forward to going back.
