Sometimes the last minute trips are the most fun!

This past labor day weekend I took the opportunity to travel with my daughter, granddaughter and great-granddaughter to New York City.
Okay, truth be told, I asked my granddaughter if I could tag along? I had never been to New York City and neither had she, and she said I could “tag along anytime!”
The whole reason we were going was my 4 year old great-granddaughter had been asked to be in a fashion show for “Super Models Unlimited!”
My daughter had been there one time before, so she was our “New Yorker”. We only had one day to see the sights and that was Friday, Saturday my great-granddaughter was going to be busy with a photo shoot and the fashion show, and Sunday we had to go back home.
New York City, ( or “The City” as New Yorkers refer to it), was not what I expected. I expected very crowded streets and bumper to bumper traffic. That is not what we found at all. The streets had traffic sure, but not what I expected. Now the closer we got to Time Square the traffic did get heavier, and there were more people.
Sidewalks were not that crowded either.
We stayed at what I would classify a historical boutique hotel, The Frederick. The Frederick is located in Manhattan, the Tribeca area which is where we needed to be for my great-granddaughter’s fashion show. We needed everything to be within walking distance and it was.

I had been pre-warned that hotel rooms in New York City were not always as spacious as we were used to in other areas. I loved The Frederick Hotel, the staff at the front desk were always very friendly and helpful. Our stay included breakfast every morning, it was more like a continental breakfast, a croissant, yogurt, fresh fruit and a granola bar. There was milk, coffee or tea available at the front desk also. You had to go pick up your breakfast at the front desk, but it was all packaged in a nice gift bag, and then you took it back to your room to eat, or outside to dine “al fresco” across the street where several tables and chairs were set up.
The restaurant next door that was connected to the hotel was called Serafina’s and had excellent food. Warning! You must show your vaccination card in order to eat inside. I had mine, but my daughter and granddaughter had not been vaccinated yet, so we dined “al fresco” there as well.
As I said before the location was great. We were in walking distance to the Brooklyn Bridge, the Staten Island Ferry, the mall that stands where the Twin Towers once stood. We even walked to Time Square! We had to find the billboard that my great-granddaughter’s picture was on.
Time Square is amazing! There’s a ferris wheel there, all the lights of the billboards advertising the coming Broadway Shows and yes, we found the billboard that we walked all that way to see. FYI, we walked over 15 miles that day.
There is so much history and great architecture in “The City.” We found Wall Street, rode the Staten Island Ferry to see the Statue of Liberty, Macy’s where they will be having the Macy’s Thanksgiving Parade soon. There was even a movie or tv show being filmed in Thomas Paine Park. We thought there had been an accident, but a police officer told us they were filming and to please walk around. So we did.

It’s one thing to watch things on TV or in the Movies, but quite another to see everything in person for yourself. I can’t wait to go back! There was so much we didn’t get to do. Hopefully we’ll go back next year and do some of the things we missed out on, like Central Park.
As we got settled in the car that was to take us back to the airport, my little great-granddaughter said it all, “I Love This Place!

What a great experience for all of you!
